This one made my stomach turn. I almost threw up. No way would that kid have gotten away with that, no matter who his people were ... if he was Black. They don't spare us like that. Never in a million years. My God, it should not be that easy for the entitled or rich white boys/men.

Laurie Holm's avatar

Frighteningly some similarities to the case a few years back of the Stanford University student who got nothing. Family name, reputation, ethnicity and money….fucking makes me so angry 😡 That’s not justice, it’s a cover up.

SMB's avatar

That case was in Santa Clara County where the VOTERS OUSTED Judge Aaron Persky who prompted widespread outrage in 2016 when he handed down a LENIENT sentence to a former Stanford University swimmer for sexual assault.

In that case, Judge Persky sentenced Brock Turner to six months in jail for assaulting an unconscious, intoxicated young woman outside a campus fraternity party.

Persky becomes the first California judge to be removed via recall since 1932.

Laurie Holm's avatar

Yup, that was the one. Brock Turner and his family are awful individuals in my book.

KingRayVet's avatar

Listen, not to mention the victims. Those boys will do it again if they don't get punished for this sort of thing. What about THEM (girls or boys)????

Joe Martin's avatar

Are you kidding? That kid would not have survived the arrest if he was black!

KingRayVet's avatar

Yep, that’s right. If it even got that far. They be shooting first and asking questions later with us.

KingRayVet's avatar

I have a famous father and 2 rogue cops beat my ass for something stupid and couldn’t care less who he was. They found out when reporters found them. Then they cooked up lies to get their asses off the hook.

Don’t have to tell ME how they treat us different. 🤬

Joe Martin's avatar

…so messed up. I am nearly 60 years old and grew up in integrated schools with a family that forgot to teach me bigotry. It is inexcusable.

You're an idiot who can't handle any kind of truths about this country. AND you're a liar.

La Gata Politica's avatar

Let's pretend Black athletes haven't raped & physically abused women...

Denise Engle's avatar

Better yet lets pretend we are all civilized and educated enough to leave ridiculous critical thinking fallacies out of serious conversations about dismantling a system biased by intent that kicks the psychopath can down the road and encourages victims to keep silent. Two tier justice is unacceptable, as is systemic racism. I think we've dicked around not solving this for far too long already.

Joe Martin's avatar

…not “playing identity politics” just simply stating the facts as supported by raw data. Every attempt to alleviate that problem have failed so far. Until the facts change, it's not playing at anything, it's simply a restatement of fact so that it won't be “whitewashed” over. I am a Registered and active voting Republican who started as a Republican knocking on doors for the Ronald Reagan campaign in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. Only MAGA has decided the truth is a politically motivated attack. The truth is what Christians are supposed to support and rejoice in … not try to hide from and worm their way around. “Alternative facts” are called lies - starting at home before Kindergarten. When a MAGA member tries to stifle the truth, hide from the truth, or flat out lie about the truth it is all bearing false witness. At what point does God no longer grant forgiveness when a supposed leader tells these lies daily in defense of another lie or liar? Asking forgiveness while not changing the evil sinful behavior does not work. Trump himself knows he is destined to burn in hell when the roll is called. If one calls the undeniable truth “identity politics” to somehow lower the impact of the lie, then repeated those lies until they are ingrained as part of their personality … what should we value that person or their word as?

Vaughn Cassidy's avatar

So which is it? Entitled. Rich. Or just white. Which one do you mean? Because if he were black and entitled and rich and connected, he would get away with it.

KingRayVet's avatar

Oh, did Cosby get away with it? Did Kelly get away with it? Did Diddy … never mind. You don’t get it. You’re sounding pretty clueless. Man, shut up.

Anyway, all of those things. I beat up on white folks all the time and didn’t feel like pointing that out again. Yes, RICH WHITE ENTITLED MALES & A FEW FEMALES … by a long shot, dude. 🙄

Why does everything have to devolve into RACE ?!? This isn’t about RACE!

Divided we fall.

KingRayVet's avatar

Point is, only rich white males get away with that shit, and that is the point in my world. Nobody should get away with it, but they get a pass, or didn’t you notice? If you deny that, you’re part of the problem.

Cheryl's avatar

Rich, being the operative word. A poor white male never would.

KingRayVet's avatar

Nobody's talking about poor white men. They have their issues, too. Doesn't mean they haven't done it, though. If they did, it wouldn't be televised. This entire thing is about connected white boys/men raping girls/boys/women/men and getting away with it. Sex rings are run by rich white men anyway. Black men would be lynched for it, Cheryl. How many times in history has that happened? Definitely rich Black men don't get away with it, which was the point. Stop changing subjects and playing 'Whataboutism'. LOL 😂 RAPE is wrong, no matter who does it ... period.

Pete Schult's avatar

Race is a social construct, true. But in a racist society it still has material implications. Class is also a social construct since money & ownership are themselves social constructs. The notion that it's only "class" struggle is false because (economic) class does not account for all of the material causes of oppression

La Gata Politica's avatar

The US isn't a racist country, we've had Black millionaires for centuries. Maybe you should look into the rich Blacks who owned lower class Black slaves, it's a fascinating history about class disparities. Same story that occurs around the globe regardless of race.

KingRayVet's avatar

Because it does and always has since y’all invented it, stoke it, and then try to act like it isn’t there. SMFH 🙄

You don’t respect the differences, then you’re a covert racist. I’m not the Kumbaya type anyway. If you don’t see me, I’m not joining anything with you. I’m unapologetically Black. Get used to it. We are around to stay.

Cheryl's avatar

If I’m a white racist then you are a black racist. I stoked nothing and I’m not acting like it either. I’m not apologizing for being white, I owe no one anything based on skin color.

If you work, live respectably, take care of your own, you have my respect no matter who you are. Period.

KingRayVet's avatar

I am retired and many white people have racist tendencies without realizing it. Party doesn't matter, but y'all say the craziest things that I've heard all my life. I'm a cantankerous old man now, and still say that if you don't see me, I cannot join anything you do. Too much lack of education in that area, and it's not our job to do that. It's on you all, or I'll just sit back and watch you ... like y'all do us all the time.

La Gata Politica's avatar

As if Black athletes haven't raped and physically abused women - afterwards they're rewarded with large contracts. What a stupid comment. It's not about race, it's about power and money protecting each other.

James Lewis's avatar

Wendy Kehoe's avatar

Bj's avatar

You having to throw race in there was about as sick as the story!!

KingRayVet's avatar

No, racists like you are sick. If your fragility can't handle this, move on past it. You finding it necessary to say this shows your sickness alone. Just like Obama couldn't get away with the shit the Fuhrer is doing, same with this. I will point out what MLK did any time I want to, racist. You sure sound like white folks back in those days, don't you? You keyboard warriors are a trip and cowardly. Stay in your lane, girl.

KingRayVet's avatar

I could care less WHAT you think. Everybody is talking about the 2 AmeriKKKas where Black people don't get judged by the same standards, wench. Lots of people here see the relevance. So, fuck off.

Chad's avatar

It's that easy because we let it. There are thousands of cases like this.

Vaughn Cassidy's avatar

Shut up. Typical response from a liberal idiot. I didn’t tell you to shut up and I wouldn’t. We were having a conversation. Never mind.

KingRayVet's avatar

Whatever, Vaughn. That wasn’t exactly a conversation-starter thing to say and was inaccurate. You don’t know what I am, but you sound like a maggot. I don’t talk with maggots, because you’re all brain damaged and too stupid to have a productive conversation with. Don’t waste my time. Boy, BYE!

Vaughn Cassidy's avatar

He called me BOY! racism! Hey KingRayVet, you are free to ignore me. Have a good life.

grain of sand's avatar

Omg!

Idk… If someone like Oprah had a kid…?! Or rich famous sports athletes… This is blatant “privilege’ and “enabling,” but not IMO a race issue. That said I'm white, so ~perspectives maybe.

Either way, it is disgusting and I'm guessing you would NOT want black people to get away with this either. I do see what you meant, but that's not really the kind of equality we are going for.

KingRayVet's avatar

It is definitely a race-based issue. No matter what you think, Black men don't have the privilege you think they do; definitely not even close as much as white men. As far as women are concerned, there's not enough Black wealthy women to even have that conversation. Everything they've ever done, unless downright murder (which rich privileged white men don't do anyway), gets a pass. This sex-trafficking thing (and rape) is led by rich/wealthy white men & women. Since slavery, it has been an issue and the reason we older Black people are mixed-race. It's even embedded in the adoption system.

From where you sit, yes, it would seem race has nothing to do with it, because you don't experience it from this side of the fence. Every conceivable crazy thing going on here right now, is race-based and them trying to shove it under the carpet is only something white people get away with. Name one single Black kid, or young Black man, who had that kind of pull and got away with covering it up legally. I'll wait.

Paige's avatar

My cousin’s boyfriend at the time rapped her son. He got 8 days in jail!!! Had great lawyers and that’s all the time he served ! Her son had to go live with his grandmother and my F ing cousin married him later. He deserved to have his thing cut off. Guess by now you can see I don’t talk to anyone from that side of the family!

Grateful4's avatar

That poor child! I sure hope the grandmother has stood up for him, has him in counseling, and disowned her daughter for how deeply disturbed she has got to be - how could anyone that was of sound mind marry a man who raped her son? Beyond sick!!!

KingRayVet's avatar

Unfortunately, it happens way more than it's reported. Especially with boys. They're far more shamed to take it to the authorities than girls and that's not saying much since they shame girls, too.

Paige's avatar

I know what you mean. This case is different. He was eight years old and my cousin called the police. The jerk spent eight days in jail. My cousin then stood up for her boyfriend now husband.

Our justice system is broken down so much that rapist and murders get off with barely any time and then they just go back to repeat the same crimes.

KingRayVet's avatar

See there, that's fucked up, Paige. Because the lawmakers (enforcers) are men, they're not taking this seriously enough. We have GOT to do better somehow. They take these things far more seriously in other countries. The U.S. is way too lenient and doesn't have to be.

Paige's avatar

Nope she didn’t. She was a part of getting the guy out of jail! I don’t have anything to do with any of them now.

I do have contact with my (I call him my nephew) cousins son. He’s still not okay even after going to therapy and I can see why he will never be okay. He was murdered. By this I’m mean he’s lost everything he could have been if that didn’t happen. We will never know his future would’ve been.

KingRayVet's avatar

Well, it's all insane. Those boys/men will be free and unleashed onto kids everywhere. Just fucking crazy!!!

Paige's avatar

Yes it is. Just have to love our justice system.

KingRayVet's avatar

Boooooooooooooo 👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿😁

Holly Campana's avatar

Apparently, they’re just gonna be unleashed to fuck anything they want, including animals, which I’m sure they do. You know the bestiality it’s a great world we live in by the way where is God?

Paige's avatar

Not sure where God is but I wish he’d wipe those people off the face of the earth.

KingRayVet's avatar

I doubt God is part of their daily regiment. Not after doing that for the kid and against his victims/survivors. Other animals aren't a part of that law.

Holly Campana's avatar

Oh yes, I know King Ray vet. Animals aren’t a part of any law, which is very unfortunate to say the minimum.

My point is where is God look at the whole fucking world it’s been going on forever. I think it’s just been getting worse and worse over the last hundred years maybe I mean cause I’m not 100 years old but you know it exponentially gets worse because we’re in you know higher tech we were not in the 1800s 19 you know I’m saying

KingRayVet's avatar

Yes, it's been going on for a long time. I'm no spring chicken. I'm on the down slope of life. I know people can be freaky and a lot of other things. As long as I'm doing what I'm supposed to be, I tend not to judge what others are doing. It can drive you crazy. The law should protect against raping humans. That's all I know. Problem is, the same people who are guilty of doing that are the ones in charge of who gets away with it and who doesn't. Dickheads abound and I'm sure God isn't pleased. He did give us free will, though. You either align yours with him or you don't. Who knows what price people pay for crimes against humanity when the rules are fucking bent?

Cheryl's avatar

Can you stop a room full of toddlers from getting into a bucket of chocolate? Only by taking the bucket away. Would you love a person who took away everything you ever wanted? Can you imagine God taking away every possible temptation out of your life? You’d HATE God for controlling everything about your life. That’s not love. That just total control. God is love. God has to let us make our own very painful mistakes so we can have free will to choose to love Him. If God wiped out every sinful person, every person who wanted to harm another person, you and I would be wiped out too. Most of us don’t act on our thoughts to kill or harm but we do act on retaliation. That’s sin too.

Cheryl's avatar

How can ANY WOMAN close her eyes and have sex with a ‘man’ who RAPED A CHILD? Any child, no less her own? That’s MENTALLY SICK!

Paige's avatar

I have no clue because I’m not a sick individual. I absolutely agree with you about all of what you said. They all need to be in prison for life.

Assemblywoman Debra Mazzarelli's avatar

We experience so many injustices as women, by men and institutions established by men-one would think the outrage and punishment for this YOUNG OFFENDER would be swift and immediate. Instead there it is again…a broken system with men and women more concerned about themselves and “reputations” than seeking justice for the female victim. How can we ever expect equality under the law, when women join the “Rust” instead of showing unity of force against this oppressive system. The victim is deprived of any justice! There must be a reckoning!

Kelley Smoot's avatar

As a undergraduate honors student who was raped by her professor after being recruited & put on the class by the “Ghislaine Maxwell” of academic geology (who went onto to become Dean of the Jackson School of Geosciences at UT-Austin) I immediately have to remind everyone to look at rape prosecution statistics: ONLY 2% of rapists ever enter into any part of the justice system. 2%!! Imagine if murders or robberies were only investigated & prosecuted at a rate of 2% - we’d have tons more murders and robberies and society would be incredibly violent. Well, guess what? With only a 2% chance of being caught, much less ever punished, why not commit the crime? Young men are told from early life they are entitled to women and if women don’t submit, the men are entitled to just rape them, or do whatever they like. When people know they will not be punished, it’s permission to commit the crime.

UNLESS AND UNTIL society decides to prosecute sexual assault and rape as the CRIMES they are, men will never feel any compulsion to not rape women, and when they do rape women, the men will get away with it. After all, society has given them permission by failing to prosecute sexual assault and rape. It’s just that simple. You want less rapes and sexual assaults? Start punishing people when they commit sex crimes.

PS: The University of Texas at Austin still refuses to correct my falsified transcript (having removed the class where I was raped from my transcript) and I was not allowed to go to graduate school because my honors thesis advisor refused to provide any recommendation letters after I was raped. She also withheld publication of my senior thesis, keeping it out of the UT Library System, as well as keeping my attendance out of any official records that would have recorded my attendance on the field course she had induced me to pay for and attend, where her former mentor raped me.

Make no mistake - universities covering up rapes of their (female) students by anyone - another student, professors, administrators, coaches, you name it — has been going on for DECADES. This is nothing new. Universities have always thrown women students “under the bus” - they literally do not care about their female students. And it continues because no one believes women; everyone believes men, with the end result that rape and sexual assault — which are VIOLENT CRIMES committed by seriously deranged people - continue, since the men that run the system refuse to prosecute sexual assault and rape.

https://rainn.org/get-informed/facts-statistics-the-scope-of-the-problem/

Assemblywoman Debra Mazzarelli's avatar

That is the key…no one believes the women…not even other women! Look at Nancy Mace, and what she did today! First we have to believe in each other and unite and males who listen should join us. In the meantime, we cannot afford to let the regime continue to reverse our rights and our legitimacy in a society devoid of trust and honor and justice!

Holly Campana's avatar

It really wasn’t a female Victim. It was her son. She victimized her son.

I just saw a message flash across my screen and I’m not sure who it was meant for but it said “Not in CO Liar!” I’ve only been on 3 threads if it was even meant for me idk. But you know Liar is kind of strong and probably has more to do with “Contempt prior to investigation” which is a very MAGA like practice. They don’t even realize their ignorance and they don’t have any data or facts and are very quick to lash out at those of us who gather receipts and have data or documents to back up our words.

It can really be exhausting and I don’t feel the need to argue my point if I’ve already supplied the back up.

I thank you for your knowledge and truth telling.

KingRayVet's avatar

Oh, it's even worse than imaginable. There's a big push in the groyper society of maggots to normalize rape culture. Fucking insane. Those damn boys don't have a clue, and because they don't, they think taking someone by force is acceptable. Who the fuck raised those kids? SMFH 🙄

Thanks for your highlighting of this awful story. That the young man served no time and will not have to register as a sex offender is very disturbing; not only was justice avoided but, it’s unlikely he will change. He probably has no motivation to change thus counselling will he useless. Next time he will be nineteen, unfortunately another woman, or women will be assaulted and may be murdered.

The judge should be disbarred imo.

Grateful4's avatar

Totally agree!!!

Nola Krosch's avatar

He got a “get out of jail free” card, for sure. But what happens next time, when he’s no longer a youth? Because I guarantee you there will be a next time. There always is with violent people who do not get any significant consequences for their actions.

Grateful4's avatar

I’m curious what age constitutes a “youthful offender”? Seems to me once you turn 18 you should be considered an ADULT - if you’re old enough to join the service, to go to war, sign contracts, etc? Then you’re no longer a “youth”…. Just my opinion

Holly Campana's avatar

My son was just entering fourth grade at a parent participation school taking a village. You know school and teacher children with teachers and parents have rotations in the various rooms various topics that they covered that were taught as like little extra things so anyway to get to the heart of this topic, there was a little girl in the classroom who was masturbating constantly and there’s a teacher there there’s an assistant, and there’s at least one or two other parents in the room every freaking day And my son was sitting next to her and he still didn’t totally know what was going on. he was reading these books trying to think what the name was doesn’t matter but he the kid was learning how to do things like spy. It’s a really well known book series anyway so he took his camera Cut a hole in his backpack and positioned it under his chair yeah and they had the police come out how old was my son you barely 4th grader and I thought well how ridiculous is that he could’ve gotten a record for just doing that we’re in California so anyway we had an attorney there, but it was unbeknownst to me that it even happened. We just got called in so you know we’re talking about a man who fucked the child in the ass that was a boy who is a child who’s 18 and then we’re looking at a fourth grader who didn’t know what this little girl was doing and he just trying to figure it outso just thought I’d share that little tidbit

AussieRee's avatar

I was hoping you’d say the fact she was continually masturbating should have given off a red flag vibe into potential sex abuse, and his spy camera footage (after your son was made aware that what he did was wrong) inadvertently and eventually helped uncover a pedophile who - was brought to justice.

Holly Campana's avatar

That’s actually a really odd thing to say the parental part of this should’ve been speaking with her daughter about the right places to do very private things.

That’s actually a really odd thing to say ; the/ her parental part of this should’ve been speaking with their daughter about the right places to do very private things but they obviously couldn’t face anything or be honest with their own child gently honest, giving her a parameters and some understanding of what she was even doing

NOT in a classroom and there were plenty of qualified PARENTS in said classroom even including the teacher!

As I was thinking about this right after I got your spin on things, it was a third grade class so I don’t remember how old my son is 23 now so I should not have said anything at all now I wish I had not said shit.

as I was thinking about this right after I got your spin on things, it was a third grade class so I don’t remember how old my son is 23 now so I should not have said anything at all now I wish I had not said shit.

The books he was reading were spy books for a kid and that’s where he got the idea and if the parents in the teacher had been paying attention to what the little girl is doing, which would be very hard to miss, Which would’ve been talked to the teacher and talked to the principal of the school it wasn’t your average public school. It was a charter school, and the parents were heavily involved. It was a prerequisite and an ongoing commitment.

Nola Krosch's avatar

For a child that age to be masturbating makes me suspicious she was being sexually abused—possibly even by a parent. Sad they would go after your son instead of asking the little girl to talk to a counselor. But then again, mandatory reporting laws were probably laxer then.

Holly Campana's avatar

Well, I just left a lengthy script here and it won’t post but now it’s allowing me to post this

Nola Krosch's avatar

I thought so too, but scientific research is now showing that our brains are not fully formed/our thought processes do not regularly consider the longterm consequences until we reach the age of 26. OTOH, Oklahoma is a pretty red state, so why would they give judges that much leeway?

KingRayVet's avatar

It's not, but they're still young MEN!! That study has been around forever. Doesn't mean a hill of beans, and when you're Black, you don't get away with that as a "youth". Ummmmmmm...

I think this would be a more effective article if it was written by a human and didn’t use obnoxious language like “truth bullets.” It spent all of one? sentence describing any information about the victims at all. How sad for a story that does deserve to be told. It just needs to be told properly.

Ethan Faulkner's avatar

The system that enables victims to go without justice served to their perpetrators is the focus of this article. If you care about the victims, you would take a moment to read the article again so you can actually learn how our system enables this injustice.

Em's avatar

I was a victim in a similar situation. Victims tend to appreciate less condescension and more respect in general.

I read the article and I (obviously) believe the story is important. However, as I said, its message is overshadowed by the tacky language and the overused emojis. There should be fewer situations like mine, and like theirs, and treating these situations with deference and respect is a large part of how we get there.

Otherwise, it simply appears like you’re capitalizing on our suffering for clicks.

Em's avatar

Separately, if you wish to pursue victim advocacy, I would strongly encourage you to avoid saying things like “if you care about the victims” when you don’t know a person’s situation themselves.

There is a large body of literature on how to respectfully write about sex abuse, especially sex abuse of children. Read it, learn it, and do better next time. We really do want motivated people like you in our corner, just doing it the right way.

La Gata Politica's avatar

He's rage baiting, it's not about the victims. Real victims and victim advocates are experienced in the proper language to use - rage baiters don't care.
