Went through and read a few of these articles in a row, very worth it. As you talked about finding cognitive simulators, is there a specific genre, or franchise you feel offers the most benefit to getting away from the doom scrolling feeling?
The most important thing to know is that your Cognitive Simulator has to be completely personal. It’s exactly like building a Sovereign Synthesizer—you have to construct it out of the cultural shards that actually mean something to you. For me, the architecture was built out of deep-lore, 'Moe' anime (Higurashi, Gurren Lagann) because the trope of 'hidden psychological horror behind a cute aesthetic' forced my brain to actively investigate reality instead of passively scrolling. But a Cognitive Simulator is uniquely tailored to the user. For you, it might be the dense political lore of Frank Herbert's Dune, the high-trust strategy of an MMORPG raid, or even building physical models for tabletop gaming. The only rule is that it must require High Friction, Deep Lore, or High Trust. You have to find the specific fictional universe whose rules demand your absolute attention. When you find the one that pulls you out of the passive doomscroll, you've found your forge.
I'm nearly in my mid 80s and I'm finding this now too tiring to absorb. I try to keep up however sorry it's getting too much. Am I the only one who feels like this?
Excellent.
Interesting analysis
The world is your oyster xD
More, please.

I used to play, until I left home to be in 3d. I never reverted, I am an expert at it, where it really counts.
