I feel you could be writing about my life. I’m old so I don’t eat much but heating my house is a challenge. Even keeping the thermostat at 53-54 I still fall behind. I have a lot of polar fleece so I make do. I’m waiting for them to come and evict me for not paying RE taxes. They’d better bring the Calvary.
As I said, I’m old so I’m not that concerned for myself but I worry about younger people (50 and younger- one’s definition of young changes with age). The kids who know hunger and feel their parents’ fear like another member of the family, those trying to get an education and a job that will pay them enough to live, young families who want a home but can’t save, the hope of owning a home withering on the vine, those who live daily with the fear of needing healthcare they can’t afford.
There are so many outstanding writers that deserve support. They are bringing the truth that so many of us seek. If I had the ability I would gladly support them. Unfortunately, that’s currently beyond my financial capacity. I’m deeply grateful for the writing here. I have never understood why there has never been accountability for the DOD’s failure to pass an audit, the response being to allocate more funds. This is the only rational explanation I’ve ever read. This author, and so many others, are struggling as we all are, yet they continue to produce such exceptional work. It’s just another reason to keep us all fighting to survive on a daily basis, making it impossible for us to provide support and guarantee the continuation of the writing we all desperately need to understand and fight back.

Apply for food stamps - SNAP, aka EBT - if you’re not already getting it.
Look up local food banks. Many have home delivery programs for seniors.
There is often funding available from various sources to help low income people with needed home repairs.
Our electric company recently replaced my brother’s dying refrigerator and dead AC/heating system for him. You may need a more efficient furnace, and you might be able to get help paying for it.
Maybe you would be better off in an apartment building or retirement community with a smaller, more efficient home that’s easier to heat.
I’m in an apartment and I literally don’t even have to turn my heat on for much of the winter because other people’s keep my place so warm I often actually have to open the windows even in the dead of winter.
My building happens to be subsidized, so my rent is capped at 30% of my income. If Dump cancels Social Security, I will have no income at all - and my rent would drop to zero. (Assuming these subsidies aren’t also eliminated, of course.)

That’s the United Way, and they will give you a list of whatever kinds of services you need in your area. Just follow the prompts - and tell them *everything* you need help with. You’ll be texting with a live person once they reply, so you can ask questions.
Also call your local Area Agency on Aging and ask for help. They, too, will give you a list of local resources which will certainly overlap with the info from 211, but one or the other will likely have additional resources.
And of course, if you aren’t already on Medicaid, apply for that also, if you qualify. It’s been a godsend for me on top of my Medicare.
Depending on your income, you might also qualify for SSI - Supplemental Security Income, which would be cash.
Ask for a case manager, who can help you navigate the maze.
Don’t even think twice about asking for help with these things. That’s what these programs are for - to help poor, elderly, and/or disabled people who are unable to work at all, or who still just can’t make ends meet. You presumably worked or otherwise paid taxes most of your life, so you have already contributed a lot into this system.

Well hi! No issue just want to see things change for the better. I am 73. I have done the protests. I bring my drums and people have thanks me for that. You never want silence and the drumming is calming. One reason i like Ethans writing besides the information which is amazing is that its the kind of mental stimulation i love, crave, and dont find very often. My last civil action was at the Capital in the 90's . I was the photographer who was willing to risk being arrested at the big ACT-UP Political Funeral where the ashes of loved ones who had died of AIDS were deposited on the lawn of the Capital which ofcourse is illegal. Back then in DC you knew the.cops on horseback would be there and you could get arrested.and in jail on that 3 day weekend. Many in ACT UP were hivPositive and on medication. It was close when a cop said in one minute they would start arresting. Everyone was sitting down against the.metal fence but i had remained standing and shooting and watching. I heard the cop and said "officer they did not hear you, give me a minute" and he did. I was real close..it was decided we had done what we came here for. It was over. As the group walked away there were about 80 photographers shooting at us. I was shooting things but they are in the pictures. It started to drizzle. The ashes became the fabric of the soil. There was nothing for them to scoop up. A helicopter flew overhead. To me its like it was yesterday. The photos b+w 16 by 20 prints became what i call a.public work. It was actually displayed in two highschools and there is more. I just never thought that the political situation would ever be what it is today. And that at 73 i would be protesting again and the White House would have such an occupant. Or that i would be reading Ethans info and learning.US history that i never knew and goes back he said 90 years...guess that was a long response..no problem.

Gail, what exactly are you interested in? I’ve been out of office since 2001. I stay active in that I support a local candidate, of my liking and movements,protests since Trump was first elected…if you give me an idea as to what the issue is I will help any way I can.
Well hi! No issue just want to see things change for the better. I am 73. I have done the protests. I bring my drums and people have thanks me for that. You never want silence and the drumming is calming. One reason i like Ethans writing besides the information which is amazing is that its the kind of mental stimulation i love, crave, and dont find very often. My last civil action was at the Capital in the 90's . I was the photographer who was willing to risk being arrested at the big ACT-UP Political Funeral where the ashes of loved ones who had died of AIDS were deposited on the lawn of the Capital which ofcourse is illegal. Back then in DC you knew the.cops on horseback would be there and you could get arrested.and in jail on that 3 day weekend. Many in ACT UP were hivPositive and on medication. It was close when a cop said in one minute they would start arresting. Everyone was sitting down against the.metal fence but i had remained standing and shooting and watching. I heard the cop and said "officer they did not hear you, give me a minute" and he did. I was real close..it was decided we had done what we came here for. It was over. As the group walked away there were about 80 photographers shooting at us. I was shooting things but they are in the pictures. It started to drizzle. The ashes became the fabric of the soil. There was nothing for them to scoop up. A helicopter flew overhead. To me its like it was yesterday. The photos b+w 16 by 20 prints became what i call a.public work. It was actually displayed in two highschools and there is more. I just never thought that the political situation would ever be what it is today. And that at 73 i would be protesting again and the White House would have such an occupant. Or that i would be reading Ethans info and learning.US history that i never knew and goes back he said 90 years...guess that was a long response..no problem.

And like you, I joined protests in the late 60’s and 70’s protesting Vietnam and advocating for women’s rights ERA and choice. The story you told you should share. I just bought a PANDA drum which allows me to meditate while playing. It’s got the nicest tones. Look it up ! I got each of my grandchildren one.
I definetly will look it up. I just started drummung a year ago. I really get into a meditative state. Took 6 classes. Onxe they had to shake my arm i was playing and very deep and did not respond to my name. Yes! Was finally able to get into that state which used to be so easy for me. I just.do it and dont think. What still amazes me is that you can do different things with people and somehow it still sounds good. I was sold! I got.all my equipment from sweetwater.com

Oh i play the drums with drumsticks. I love it and it feels right to me. You should try it. I have two cajon bongos. They are wood. Really different. And 1 regular bongo a flat drum and a jembe which i have not really gotten to yet. I keep the bongo by my tv chair. Even my cats like it. Great stress reliever with the drum sticks..also turn them around and use other end. I dont know tech but feel free to take what i wrote about the Political Funeral and post it anywhere.
