There once was a long-running public television series exploring scientific and other topics called "Closer to Truth."
The title came to mind when reading the above post, as it strikes me as being closer to the truth of world domination operations than other explanations that I have come across.
I think there is a desire in our minds and hearts for a sort of explanatory monotheism, a single source of all the machinations of society that cause consternation, if not outright fear.
It may be that there is no Oz behind any curtain.
It may be that there are loosely affiliated entities that combine or disaffiliate at will to accrue power and resources.
Given that none of these may have any loyalty to any other, the capacity for havoc may expand exponentially.
Somehow it would be reasonable to expect that should a mastermind exist, he, she, or it would be identified by now.
But perhaps the mastermind is only within our mind. (Cue scary music.)
But if that is so, then it is worthy of our own examination, our own need for explanations.
This is not to suggest that these entities and individuals are benign.

A thought: There are approximately 500 individuals who run international capitalism. They are in charge of several dozen organizations, both public and private, or both. So, some of them wanted to eliminate the points of friction between them. They decided it was because they were only loosely affiliated that those points of friction existed in the first place. Their solution was to cross invest in each other. Substantial investments. Enough that they were entitled to seats on each other's boards of directors. If I may pick up on this and your previous explanatory posts, which I reached via Ethan's original series of posts.
In my study of collapsology (historical records of how 26 documented empires have fallen), an undeniable pattern emerged: the concentration of an elite class. The conclusion I came to (supported by the work done by Donella Meadows) is that "the system determines behavior."
In other words, there isn't a scheming elite class or an evil cabal or some deity conducting a battle between good and evil. It's simply a certain type of person that understands how the system works and then modifies their behavior to exploit the system. It's what happens in all class-based societies. It starts with division of labor and then progresses all the way through to the 1% and eventually the 0.0001%. The process takes 200-500 years and progresses through 7 well-defined phases.
If we take the start of the current Cycle of Empire (the first time it's a globalized empire) as 1648 (Peace of Westphalia), we are 378 years into the cycle and, depending on which country you're in, you're likely in Phase 5, 6, or 7 of the process. By which I mean that the behavior of certain individuals is entirely predictable with a solid enough understanding of how the process has repeated before.
The point about all of this is that the hubris of the elite class eventually causes their demise. This happens without fail. Every single class-based empire has imploded. But that does not mean the end of humanity. A remnant always pick up the pieces and birth something better.

Past empires collapsed through materia/resource strain, elite overreach, and loss of legitimacy. This one is collapsing through epistemic degradation at scale. And I agree on the last point entirely: what survives depends on which ideas are kept alive before the crisis makes them inevitable.
To build on the undermining of "perception, identity, and narrative," I view this as an entrepreneurial opportunity, which I call Vibe Framing: the ability to construct worldviews (mental frames) with the assistance of today's technologies.
I argue that entrepreneurship has evolved through increasingly abstract domains: from place-based physical production to increasingly abstract activities operating in global and digital spaces. I summarize it as follows:
1. Farmers emerged in the Neolithic Revolution, 12,000 years ago. Domain = soil/no abstraction
2. Forgers emerged in the Industrial Revolution, 1760-1830. Domain = factory/low abstraction

Absolutely, but unevenly… Technology accelerates the cycle and raises system “heat,” yet collapse still follows when feedback fails and impunity concentrates-like it is doing now. Speed changes timing and scale, but rarely the underlying dynamics of breakdown.
Throughout history the pattern repeats, anytime acceleration outruns accountability.
The late Roman Empire used advanced logistics, roads, and bureaucracy to scale power. Those very same systems concentrated extraction and weakened feedback. The machine kept running after legitimacy thinned.
Gutenberg and his printing press. It massively increased information throughput, broke the Church’s monopoly on narrative, and destabilized shared reality across Europe. What followed was not immediate enlightenment, but fragmentation, propaganda, and the Protestant Reformation, along with a century of religious wars.
More recently; the Weimar Republic adopted modern media and financial systems at speed. Hyperinflation and propaganda saturated the field faster than institutions could stabilize it, creating conditions for authoritarian consolidation.
And let’s not skip how the Soviet Union collapse industrialized control and information management. When internal signals stopped being trusted, the system lost coherence quickly despite its scale and technical capacity.
The pattern holds: New technology expands who can produce “truth.” Institutions fail to adapt fast enough. Conflict rises until new legitimacy structures form.
Acceleration doesn’t prevent collapse. It changes how chaotic the transition feels, what is happening now will absolutely collapse.

What I’ve been observing for years since covid now is the existence of a “predatory class,” a literal tribe of oligarchs. A thought: There are approximately 500 individuals who run international capitalism. They are in charge of several dozen organizations, both public and private, or both. For Christians (even the real ones) Evil ie the Devil/Satan is the current ruler of this world post Adam/Eve. Evil is always present. So generic generational humanistic evil…rather than some post WWII decade after decade super organized uber wealthy plot to kill off various ‘sub’ populations does feel an unhealthy stretch.
But…That said…. I look at the narcissism of trump and how becoming potus has melded into hyper dangerous elitist authoritarianism…. And I wonder…. Is trump just some annoying wannabe rogue player? That the Rockefeller, Carnegies, etc are allowing his brand of chaotic smoke and mirrors because he’s such a half wit - So they aren’t concerned?

Trump does not need to be “allowed” by some immortal bloodline. He is a familiar type. Here is the part that matters most, and where I gently push back on fatalism.
Power does not require total control to win. It only needs enough silence, enough withdrawal, enough people deciding that opting out is safer than opting in. “Head in the sand” feels protective, but it is actually the posture that power relies on. Not because dissent always wins, but because non-participation guarantees loss.
What can be done is not heroic or cinematic. It is boring, local, relational, and cumulative. It looks like refusing lies in small rooms, supporting people instead of movements. Building parallel structures of care, labor, and accountability that do not collapse when national politics rot. Authoritarianism feeds on isolation and despair. It starves on connection and persistence.
You are right that protest alone is not enough. Protest without follow-through is theater. But protest plus mutual aid, plus labor action, plus voting, plus institutional sabotage of bad actors, plus refusing to normalize cruelty is not futile. It is slow. Slow does not mean meaningless.
Evil may always be present. That does not make resistance pointless. It makes it necessary. Not to win forever, but to make life livable now.
That is not false hope. That is maintenance.

And I was one of the first to get the vaccines as well - even while being criticized.
Was I scared? Absolutely.
After all, In my then 60+ years I had never experienced a world wide pandemic let alone one born from viral experimentation. An unknown.
But I didn’t allow my internal fear dictate my outward actions to protect other lives (while protecting my own as well). There is always risk in everyday life. But as a born again Jesus follower - how could I claim the faith and behave like those only concerned with themselves. Or worse, anti-vaxers who wanted to deny elderly or others a choice?

At 57, I feel every word!! When someone has lived through abuse, acceptance is not apathy. It is a survival skill. Knowing when to conserve energy is wisdom, not failure.
You are also right about fear. This moment is frightening, especially when institutions hesitate and the noise is loud. Exhaustion is not accidental. It is how pressure works. When people are tired, they mistake withdrawal for safety.

If I may pick up on this and your previous explanatory posts, which I reached via Ethan's original series of posts.
In my study of collapsology (historical records of how 26 documented empires have fallen), an undeniable pattern emerged: the concentration of an elite class. The conclusion I came to (supported by the work done by Donella Meadows) is that "the system determines behavior."
In other words, there isn't a scheming elite class or an evil cabal or some deity conducting a battle between good and evil. It's simply a certain type of person that understands how the system works and then modifies their behavior to exploit the system. It's what happens in all class-based societies. It starts with division of labor and then progresses all the way through to the 1% and eventually the 0.0001%. The process takes 200-500 years and progresses through 7 well-defined phases.
If we take the start of the current Cycle of Empire (the first time it's a globalized empire) as 1648 (Peace of Westphalia), we are 378 years into the cycle and, depending on which country you're in, you're likely in Phase 5, 6, or 7 of the process. By which I mean that the behavior of certain individuals is entirely predictable with a solid enough understanding of how the process has repeated before.
The point about all of this is that the hubris of the elite class eventually causes their demise. This happens without fail. Every single class-based empire has imploded. But that does not mean the end of humanity. A remnant always pick up the pieces and birth something better.

I agree with your core premise and with Meadows: systems shape behavior far more reliably than intent, morality, or ideology. You don’t need an evil cabal when the incentive structure reliably selects for the same kinds of actors and rewards the same extractive strategies over centuries.
BUT, what we’re experiencing now isn’t just late-stage elite concentration, it’s the weaponization of cognition itself inside a globalized system. Past empires collapsed through materia/resource strain, elite overreach, and loss of legitimacy. This one is collapsing through epistemic degradation at scale. Shared reality, trust, and meaning-making have become contested terrain.
The behavior is predictable, the phases repeat, and hubris does its work. But the novelty of this cycle is informational. When perception, identity, and narrative become primary resources, the system doesn’t just concentrate wealth, it destabilizes how people know what’s real.
That doesn’t negate historical cycles. It explains why this one feels so disorienting from the inside.
And I agree on the last point entirely: what survives depends on which ideas are kept alive before the crisis makes them inevitable.

The late Roman Empire used advanced logistics, roads, and bureaucracy to scale power. Those very same systems concentrated extraction and weakened feedback. The machine kept running after legitimacy thinned.
Gutenberg and his printing press. It massively increased information throughput, broke the Church’s monopoly on narrative, and destabilized shared reality across Europe. What followed was not immediate enlightenment, but fragmentation, propaganda, and the Protestant Reformation, along with a century of religious wars.
More recently; the Weimar Republic adopted modern media and financial systems at speed. Hyperinflation and propaganda saturated the field faster than institutions could stabilize it, creating conditions for authoritarian consolidation.
And let’s not skip how the Soviet Union collapse industrialized control and information management. When internal signals stopped being trusted, the system lost coherence quickly despite its scale and technical capacity.
The pattern holds: New technology expands who can produce “truth.” Institutions fail to adapt fast enough. Conflict rises until new legitimacy structures form.
Acceleration doesn’t prevent collapse. It changes how chaotic the transition feels, what is happening now will absolutely collapse.

What I’ve been observing for years since covid now is the existence of a “predatory class,” a literal tribe of oligarchs. Call it structural Oligarcy, call it a cabal, to me it’s largely the same thing in practice, with all the built in mechanisms of tribal behavior: in-group benevolence, out-group ambivalence/malevolence.
There are tells, indicators, of this tribe, one being the Dunbar number, which claims humans function most coherently in groups from 150-500 max.
Think Committee of 300. Why that number? Because it’s “natural.” It’s built into human interaction. It’s the closest thing we have to the root structure of human existence.
Not the individual, not the nuclear family, not nation states, and not religions: it’s TRIBE.

I agree until we arrive at Planetary Boundaries. I do not see that the many earth and social scientists who support Earth 4 ALL favour oligarchy and massive inequality. The first of their 5 pivotal steps is to 1 Address poverty and massive inequality (for sure, this is not easy and requires serious effort, pilot studies, and constant reevaluations). Earth 4 All recommends that this be regional and tailored for each community. 2 Improving gender parity. 3 Healthy and ethical food production. 4. Addressing transportation and 5 Energy needs. All these ideas require constant discussion and reevaluation, along with various safeguards. Nothing is perfect, and transparency, etc, are essential and a choice. I know there are all kinds of fraud and greenwashing among "philanthropists." I think ESGs are not ideal. Some of what Bill McKibben writes about in the crucial years is of interest.
