I’m 66 yrs old. I never understood the poke-man obsession of my two sons back in the day. Your point about digital pellets was on point but the real takeaway for me was your masterful explanation of the dopamine laced Pokémon phenomena. I finally understand after all these years. Thank you, Anthony.
I really appreciate your comment and hearing how this article helped understanding this. As a parent now, I can now understand how baffling and maybe even uncombfortable this would feel. My son (who is almost 5) gets extremely focused on toys in ways that look obsessive to me. At first I was concerned but have since learned children just talk a lot and repeat the same thing when excited, it’s how they express it. It has made me more mindful of what I let them watch and or play with. Unfortunately what we’ve learned about human development and child psychology has been “weaponized” to capture costumers earlier and more potently. Imagine what we could do if we used it to build resilient, well-developed humans instead of just data points for profit?
Connection, always! ❤️✊
